About
Emily Barta is a multidisciplinary printmaker with a background in fiber art. She works in screen printing, monotype, and mixed media printmaking. Barta turns the typical use of printmaking as a means of creating multiples on its head by using it to make unreproducible prints which are more akin to paintings. She welcomes the ability of printmaking to create a distance between the artist and the process of making.
In 2011 she earned a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she was awarded the First Year Program Merit Scholarship. In late 2018, she relocated her studio from Brooklyn, NY to southeastern Minnesota.
